2019 Volunteer Appreciation Night

Friday, April 26 was our Volunteer Appreciation Night at the hall, complete with buffet dinner, awards, and door prizes. Volunteerism is crucial to our continued success in bringing our community together. We would not be able to offer the programs we do without the support of our fabulous volunteers.

Each year, we honour those in our community who have made an outstanding contribution. Our Volunteers of the Year are:

  • Clara MacMillan, who has volunteered for BASS for over 20 years, and done everything from ordering supplies, managing bingo & whist, cooking & serving food, plus volunteering for the Variety Show.
  • Leander Britz, who has volunteered each and every night for the Variety Show for a number of years, and this year also replaced every light fixture in the hall with energy-efficient LED lights.
  • Jorja Grist, who has volunteered at almost every social event we have hosted in the past few years. She has also been an active member of the Variety Show clean-up committee (even though she’s not old enough to watch the show yet!)

We honoured Kathy Morrison, who has been an active member of our community and our board for almost 40 years. At our recent AGM in April, Kathy stepped down from her position as Community Liaison.

We awarded David Grist with an Honourary Lifetime Membership for his dedication and hard work in the community. David currently serves as Past President on our board.

We sincerely appreciate everyone who takes the time to lend a hand on the board, at our casino, community league day, craft show, programs, fun events, bartending for rentals, and the Variety Show. Our community has extraordinary volunteers; some have been volunteering since we became a community league in 1965, as well as teens who are learning the value and the satisfaction of giving back to their community.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, who make our community such a wonderful place to live.
