Enjoying spring and looking towards summer…

Pop-Up Community Garden: After the snow we are thrilled to see the sunshine! Are you excited to grow some fresh vegetables this summer? The Beverly/Rundle area was granted a Pop-Up Community Garden from the City of Edmonton with 15 garden plots. Learn more about the garden and how to apply by clicking here.

Even if you do not need garden space, if you have seeds, plants or gardening knowledge to share please reach out! Another option is https://www.yardshareyeg.com - if you have yard space to share or would like to see if someone in the area has space check it out! I've seen several lovely front-yard gardens that look very successful - and what a rewarding feeling to grow your own food.

Green Shacks are back! From July 5 to August 27 kids aged 6-12 (or any age accompanied by an adult) are welcome to join the FREE fun at the City of Edmonton Green Shacks. At Rundle Heights Playground programming is offered M-F from 10:30-5:30, and at Floden Park programming is M-F 10:30-1:30.  The posters are here if you'd like more information.

BHCL AGM: Our AGM was held on April 13, and at our May 11 board meeting we appointed volunteers into the last two board positions.  Click here to see who is on our current Beverly Heights Community League board. We are excited to get to work, start planning activities, events, sports and skating this year - things are looking up to the re-opening of our province over the next few months. We've missed hanging out with the community members 🙂

Community Connections

As we approach a full year of dealing with the changes COVID-19 has brought to our lives, it is even more important than ever to connect with friends, family and neighbours – even if it is in a new way. We hope you are finding resources you need to keep you and your family physically and mentally healthy, and are able to reach out for help. We hope you find balance and are able to find moments of peace. We never expected the impact of this virus to go on so long, but hopefully we can see the light at the end of a long year where so many things have challenged us and changed the world in which we live.

This month’s eNewsletter includes links and information about services in our area on our Community Partner Page. We encourage you to reach out to them if you need help, or if you would like to volunteer. Throughout the eNewletter, the links in bold, blue, underlined font take you directly to a website or Facebook link for more information.

Links to ideas to help you reach out to your neighbours through the Abundant Community initiative are on page 3. It’s as easy as dropping a note or friendly card in someone’s mail box! Maybe some Valentine’s cards to brighten a family’s day…

We are looking forward to resuming programs, events, and connecting in person as soon as we are able. In the mean time, enjoy this month’s eNewsletter! Other editions are under “About Us”, “Newsletters”. Stay safe, and lets keep connected.

  • Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to cancel the Christmas Craft & Gift Show, which is usually held in November.
  • The pop-up garden near Rundle School is growing! Thank you to our Abundant Communities Coordinator, Rayna, for getting this up and running.
  • The Rundle Heights Park Redevelopment Committee is hosting a bottle drive fundraiser on August 23 from 10:00 – 3:00. You may either drop off your bottles (location TBD) or we will pick up from your house. You may also drop your bottles off at the Beverly Bottle Depot and ask for the proceeds to go to the Rundle Heights Park Redevelopment.

June 2020 Board Meeting

After a brief hiatus due to COVID-19, your Beverly Heights Board met for our June meeting, adhering to social distancing protocols to ensure our safety.

Most of our discussion was around the potential re-opening of our community league and services. Community leagues are included in phase 2 of the province’s reopening plan. We agreed to create a sub-committee to focus on fulfilling the requirements for our league to reopen safely. We will revisit the discussion at our August meeting. For now, our hall will remain closed to all programs, and rentals.

Our 2020 Annual General Meeting has been rescheduled for September 15 at 7:00 pm. Please note that due to COVID-19, we will be following all social distancing requirements, as determined by Alberta Health Services. The meeting will be held in the Main Hall. All attendees will be required to wear a mask, as per the City of Edmonton face-covering bylaw.

We will elect the following term positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Facility Maintenance Director, Fundraising Director, Neighbourhood Watch Director, Programs/Social Director, and Publicity/Communications Director.

For information on the positions, please click here to read more.

Please come out and have your voice heard at our AGM!
