Borrow It, Don’t Buy It: New Perk for Beverly Heights Community League Members

Have a home improvement project you've been putting off because you don't own the right tool? Need a specialized tool that you'll probably only use once? Or perhaps you're tackling a gardening project and don't want to spend money on equipment that will sit in the garage for most of the year?

Beverly Heights Community League has a new solution: we've purchased a sponsorship with the Edmonton Tool Library.

That means Beverly Heights Community League members can now access the Edmonton Tool Library and borrow tools for free!

What is a Tool Library?

Edmonton Tool Library is a library for tools instead of books. Rather than purchasing an expensive tool for a single project, you can borrow what you need and return it when you're finished.

The Tool Library has a wide variety of equipment for home improvement, repairs, woodworking, gardening, and other projects. It's a great way to save money, avoid storing equipment you rarely use, and make better use of resources that are already available in our community.

And, importantly, you don't have to be an experienced DIYer to take advantage of it. Whether you're a seasoned renovator or someone attempting your first home project, borrowing a tool can make trying something new much more accessible.

What does your Beverly membership get you?

Under our community league sponsorship, Beverly Heights members can receive an annual individual membership to the Edmonton Tool Library at no cost.

Individual Tool Library members can:

  • Borrow up to 8 tools at a time
  • Keep borrowed tools for one week
  • Access the Tool Library's inventory throughout the year
  • Borrow tools without paying an additional rental fee, provided they are returned on time and in good condition

There is no need to buy an expensive tool for the one job where you need it. Borrow it instead!

How do I get started?

First and foremost, you need a current Beverly Heights Community League membership to qualify. Get yours on our membership page here.

On your first visit to the Tool Library, you'll need to complete the Tool Library membership application and liability waiver, review the borrowing policy, and show photo ID along with your current Beverly Heights Community League membership.

The Edmonton Tool Library is located at:

Bellevue Community Hall
7308 112 Avenue NW, Edmonton
North entrance

Current regular hours are:

Wednesdays: 6:00–8:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

It's a good idea to check the Tool Library's calendar before making a special trip, as hours can occasionally change.

A benefit that goes beyond tools

Our community has plenty of people who garden, maintain their homes, build things, repair things, and take on ambitious weekend projects. But nobody needs to own every tool required for every project.

The Tool Library gives us another way to share resources within Edmonton rather than everyone having to buy and store their own equipment.

So the next time you're staring at a project and thinking, "I don't have the right tool for that," check the Edmonton Tool Library's inventory before heading to the hardware store.

Your community league membership may already have you covered.

Happy building, fixing, planting, and making!
